Bowen

Once the summer getaway of wealthy merchant, Henry Bowen, this 1846 Gothic Revival estate in the picturesque town of Woodstock, includes sculptured boxwood parterre gardens and 21 flower beds. In the lifetime of the owner, Roseland Cottage was the site of many lavish parties which four Presidents of  the United States attended.

The house is surrounded by stately trees and shaded lawns. The porch of the gaily painted main house, now a museum, makes an intriguing frame for wedding photographs. The restored carriage barn and grounds can be rented for weddings and receptions; a kitchen and handicap-accessible restrooms are available. Parties from 20-80 can be seated in the barn, up to 300 with a tent site. Museum tours can be arranged for guests.

Roseland Cottage is a National Historic Landmark and is owned and operated by SPNEA (the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities).
